Description	The author laments the absence of swashbuckling non-conformist mamas of past who knew how to live dangerously in sharp contrast to modern women who have gone soft and sissy the world over. He then goes on to recount the hair-raising adventures of many of these women including Catalina de Eranso, a nun turned brigand; Gabrielle Bompard who broke out of jail to escape the gallows; and the writer’s great aunt Philomena who is reputed to have forced the mayor at gunpoint to sign the bill allowing women to vote, and when she was caught for this and her other crimes, she somehow managed to escape jail and took the hills to lead the life of an outlaw.
